There may be some specific defensible use for it in baking somewhere, but otherwise it’s inexcusable. MSG is also good in stuff that doesn’t have soy sauce though. I pretty much put it on everything now – potatoes, eggs, salad dressings, soups, curries, chili, etc. The MSG from Korean grocery stores is particularly delicious because they also contain disodium 5′ ribonucleotides (inosinate and guanylate).

For the record, I love Chinese food and love all those Haters Gonna Hate President Donald Trump Funny Shirt and have them all in my pantry at the ready (I like them more than isolated MSG, in fact, as most contain glutamates as a natural byproduct of their fermentations). Your tone is the only reason I’m commenting here because you are acting like you just discovered something that has been discussed on this sub for years now and although can be stated very matter of factly, does have some nuance. When it comes to MSG itself, I see it the same way I see cane sugar or corn syrup. It’s an effective ingredient, but if I can get the glutamates (or sugars) directly from natural sources, I’m much more inclined to do that. I’m basically wary of any ingredient that I can’t realistically make myself. That said, I just watched a pretty interesting video on how to make a powdered mushroom extract that is essentially concentrated glutamate and salt. You are right; people with histamine intolerance do get sick from MSG and Doritos and all that. Many people don’t know that, but it can be useful to be aware of that.
